Cedar Spire Treehouse

At the end of a long driveway in the grounds of a grand Scottish estate in Fife, stands a 500 year old Cedar Tree. After suffering the trauma of a severe lighting strike that destroyed the largest of the tress limbs; it left a sorry sight next to the magnificent Copper Beech that guards the gateway to the grounds. The client’s brief was to fill the gap left by the missing Cedar tree trunk with a fantasy Treehouse for his children and to create a Tree Deck under the shelter of the Copper Beech canopy for the adults; so they could relax or entertain whilst watching the children play.

Standing at over 45 feet to the top of the spire, the natural Cedar shingle roof blends with the copper roof of the smaller turret, both capped with a copper finial and linking with copper bands around the Treehouse. With arched stained glass windows and doors the sunlight breaks down into coloured fragments that shine across the highly polished floor. (Part of which is the solid tree trunk over 20 feet thick and clearly showing all of its 500+ growth rings). The second floor is reach by way of a ladder making the idea place for an exciting ‘sleep-over’!

Two long staircases reach the Treehouse with verandas at varying heights, the upper-most of these incorporates the gate that protects the thrilling ‘zip-slide’ that transports the more adventurous over 600 feet to a distant tree.

A bridge, suspended on pivots and runners (to allow the two trees to move independently of each other,) links the Treehouse to the large Tree Deck with shaped balustrade. Easily able to accommodate ten guests to enjoy a casual meal or simply as a place to relax and listen to the laughter caused by happy children, enjoying this unique and exciting Castle in the sky.
